3rd session of the Morocco-Angola Joint Commission: highlights of the joint communiqué

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola, Mr. Téte Antonio, co-chaired, on July 11, 2023 in Rabat, the 3rd session of the Morocco-Angola Joint Commission.

In a joint communiqué adopted at the end of the Commission's proceedings, the Republic of Angola expressed its encouragement for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, to find a just, lasting political solution, mutually acceptable to the parties and based on compromise".

The two ministers also reiterated their unwavering commitment to the principles of international law and legality, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.

Mr. Bourita welcomed the major role played by His Excellency the Angolan President, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, in his capacity as champion of peace and reconciliation in Africa, appointed by the African Union.

For his part, the Angolan head of diplomacy praised Morocco's vision of an emerging, stable and prosperous Africa. The Republic of Angola hailed HM King Mohammed VI's leadership on the issue of migration at both African and international levels.

On this occasion, the two ministers had an in-depth exchange of views on regional and international issues of common interest, and also expressed the shared desire of both countries to contribute to the development of the African continent, while preserving peace and security.

The two ministers, who held fruitful talks, praised the excellent ties of friendship and solidarity that exist between the two countries.

In this respect, they praised the quality of the feelings of esteem and respect that characterize the relations between their Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency Mr. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, the joint press release emphasized.

Morocco and Angola welcomed the positive development of their relations, underlining the interest of both countries in establishing ambitious and fruitful cooperation in several fields.

The two sides underlined the interest of both countries in establishing ambitious and fruitful cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, tourism, mining and energy, education and vocational training, infrastructure, logistics, health and pharmaceuticals.

With this in mind, they invited sectoral ministers from both countries to jointly identify actions and projects to be undertaken in key sectors of common interest, while encouraging business communities to carry out prospecting missions to fully explore the opportunities offered by both countries.

The two ministers also expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in the various areas of cooperation since the last session of the Joint Cooperation Commission held in 2013, and in the implementation of the Cooperation Roadmap presented by the Kingdom of Morocco to the Republic of Angola for the period 2021-2024.

The two parties also welcomed the positive development of relations between the two brotherly countries in recent years, reinforced by the two historic meetings between the two Heads of State, HM King Mohammed VI and HEM. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, respectively in Abidjan in November 2017 on the sidelines of the 5th AU-EU Summit, and in Brazzaville in May 2018 on the sidelines of the 1st Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Climate Commission.

They also expressed their willingness to support each other's candidacies.

The two ministers also stressed that the 4th session of the Moroccan-Angolan Joint Cooperation Commission would be held in Angola, on a date to be decided by mutual agreement through diplomatic channels.
