6th session of the Morocco-Oman Joint Commission: Key points of the joint communiqué

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, co-chaired, on July 4, 2023 in Rabat, the 6th session of the Morocco-Oman Joint Commission.

The Kingdom of Morocco and the Omani Sultanate affirmed their willingness to move forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, commercial, industrial, judicial and development fields, and in all areas likely to open up new prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations, thanks to the High Guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and his brother, His Majesty Sultan Haitham ben Tariq.

With regard to the Moroccan Sahara, the Omani Sultanate expressed its support for the Kingdom's territorial integrity and the Moroccan autonomy plan, calling it a serious, realistic and credible initiative and the basis for resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue.

The Omani side expressed its appreciation for "the wisdom of the Moroccan leadership in its commitment to a peaceful solution that serves security and stability in the Maghreb region".

The Omani Sultanate hailed the pioneering role played by Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, in strengthening regional and international security and stability, as well as the Sovereign's sustained efforts to consolidate the foundations of peace and development on the African continent.

The Moroccan side hailed the distinguished role played by the Sultanate of Oman, under the wise leadership of HM Haitham ben Tarek, in consolidating the foundations of peace and security in its regional and international environment.

The two sides also stressed the importance of joint Arab action, insisting on the right of Arab States to defend their integrity and sovereignty, to strengthen their security and stability through the promotion of the values of mutual assistance, solidarity and good neighborliness, and to refrain from any interference in the internal affairs of States and any threat to their territorial integrity.

The two sides called for a political solution to the crises in several brotherly Arab countries, so that they can preserve their territorial and national integrity, guarantee their security and stability, and meet their peoples' aspirations for development and freedom, in accordance with the relevant UN and international resolutions.

The Sultanate of Oman also praised the sustained efforts of HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in defending Al-Quds Acharif and its inhabitants, preserving its civilizational identity and its status as a symbol of tolerance and coexistence between monotheistic religions.

The Sultanate of Oman also praised the humanitarian and social projects carried out by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, the Committee's executive arm, to strengthen the Maqdessis' roots in their land and support their resistance.

Both parties reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people, insisting on their right to establish an independent and sovereign state with East Al-Quds as its capital, based on the principle of the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.

The two ministers called for intensified efforts to break the deadlock in the peace process, and to relaunch negotiations, according to a well-defined timetable that would lead to agreement on all the issues of the final solution, stressing that failure to resolve this issue is likely to "increase tensions and extremism in the region and pose a threat to regional security and stability".

Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed their commitment to the political and legal status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions. The two parties also reiterated their condemnation of extremism and terrorism in all their forms, whatever their pretexts and motivations, stressing that this dangerous scourge must in no way be associated with any civilization or religion.
