Election by acclamation of the Kingdom of Morocco as a member of the Human Rights Consultative Committee, a subsidiary organ of the UN Human Rights Council.
Rabat, (MOFA, Statement) - The Kingdom of Morocco was today elected, by acclamation, in the person of Professor Nadia BERNOUSSI, member of the Human Rights Consultative Committee.

The election of Morocco constitutes an acknowledgement of the continuous efforts made by the Kingdom, in accordance with the High Clairvoyant and Avant-garde Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, in the promotion and protection of Human Rights. It also reflects the credibility and trust Morocco enjoys with UN human rights bodies.

This election, which comes a few weeks after the brilliant election of Mr. Mohammed AMARTI, to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and that of Mr. Mahjoub EL HAIBA, to the United Nations Human Rights Committee, is the result of an intense diplomatic campaign led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, as part of strengthening the presence of Moroccan expertise in international and regional organizations in accordance with the High Orientations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him.

Ms Nadia BERNOUSSI is a professor of Constitutional Law and member of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission). She succeeds Mr. Mohamed BENNANI who has served on the Human Rights Advisory Committee since its creation in 2008.

The Advisory Committee, a subsidiary body of the Human Rights Council made up of 18 experts elected by secret ballot by the Council for a three-year term, renewable once, from a list of candidates meeting certain criteria, namely: competence in the field of human rights or related fields, high moral character, independence and impartiality.
