"The EU welcomes any initiative aimed at supporting the UN-led mediation process and advancing the resolution of the Libyan conflict through a political process," the EU spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Peter Stano told.
"The EU will continue to actively support the Libyan people in their aspirations to establish a peaceful, stable and prosperous country," he added.
This statement by the EU spokesperson reiterates the position expressed by the High Representative for European Union Foreign Policy Josep Borrell, last September, during a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita.
Mr. Borrell had "welcomed and encouraged this Moroccan initiative as a timely contribution to the efforts of the United Nations for a political solution to the crisis in Libya, in order to guarantee the cohesion of the country, its territorial integrity and its sovereignty".
