Speaking to the press following the meeting, Tangara underlined the importance of regular consultations between the two countries on issues of mutual interest, mainly within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), of which the Gambia holds the rotating presidency.
The Gambian diplomat hailed the commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the al-Quds Committee, to promoting bilateral relations.
Tangara also highlighted “the Kingdom’s great diplomatic breakthrough,” under the Sovereign’s impetus, recently illustrated by the UK's decision "to support the Moroccan autonomy plan for the southern provinces," as a "realistic and lasting solution" to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
In this context, the Gambian minister reiterated his country's "unambiguous" support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
