Joint press statement of the meeting between MFA Nasser Bourita and the Vice-President and Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Colombia, Ms. Marta Lucia Ramírez

At the invitation of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Nasser Bourita, the Vice-President and Minister of External Relations of Colombia, Marta Lucia Ramirez, made an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco from October 28 to November 1, 202l.
- This visit was an occasion to commend the excellence of bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Colombia and to reaffirm the common will of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President lván Duque Márquez, to consolidate the fruitful multidimensional cooperation which exists between the two countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally and particularly within the framework of South-South cooperation.
- The two ministers reiterated their commitment to promote and strengthen political, trade, energy, economic, cultural and academic relations and to explore opportunities to strengthen bilateral exchanges, taking into account complementarity and the respective potentials of the two countries, particularly in terms of renewable energies, trade, infrastructure and tourism. Regarding business and trade relations, the two ministers pledged to seek new mechanisms to expand and diversify trade and explore investment possibilities, through the establishment of productive platforms that would facilitate access to markets of their respective regions, urging Moroccan and Colombian experts to hold sectoral meetings and to establish a roadmap and set priorities to this end.
- Mr. Nasser Bourita reiterated d,uring this meeting, his country's support for the policy of "Peace within the Law" led by the President of Colombia, H.E. Mr. lván Duque Márquez and for the multiple actions undertaken by Colombia as part of the implementation of the peace agreements.
- Mr. Nasser Bourita also praised the efforts of the President of the Republic of Colombia HE Mr. Iván Duque Márquez and his Government in the field of peace, legality as well as the improvement of conditions in different regions of the country and the impact of these measures in terms of stability and perception.
- Mr. Nasser Bourita welcomed the decision announced by the Procurer-General of the International Criminal Court to close the preliminary case on Colombia.
- The two ministers welcomed the convergence of views on multiple issues, both regional and international, and pledged to increase cooperation and coordination within international and regional organizations and agreed to work together to strengthen multilateral diplomacy in forums, in which the two countries are active.
- Mr. Nasser Bourita informed HE the Vice-President and Minister of External Relations of the latest developments relating to the Autonomy Initiative for the Sahara region presented by Morocco in 2007. The Vice-President and Minister of External Relations underlined, as it has been recognized in various Resolutions of the UN Security Council, the serious efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco in the search for a political, pragmatic, realistic and lasting solution to this dispute, within the framework of the political process conducted under the exclusive auspices of the United Nations. In this sense, the Vice-President and Minister of External Relations underlined the importance of the Moroccan Initiative, with a view to reaching a political, realistic, lasting solution based on the compromise of all parties, to put an end to this dispute, within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco
- The Vice-President and Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Colombia, H. E Mrs. Marta Lucia Ramírez informed the Minister of the instructions given to the new Ambassador of Colombia in Rabat, to extend the consular jurisdiction of the Embassy of Colombia to the Kingdom of Morocco over all Moroccan territory, including the Sahara.
- In view of the impact of the migratory phenomenon, the two ministers agreed that it is a real challenge for the international community. Regarding the crisis in Venezuela, Mr. Nasser Bourita praised the intense work carried out by Colombia to try to remedy the humanitarian situation caused by the large number of Venezuelan migrants arriving in the country, stressing the importance that Colombia is adopting the Temporary Protection Statute for Venezuelan migrants and the granting of the Temporary Protection card. In this sense, Colombia and Morocco converge in their vision regarding migration policy that preserves the legitimate rights of migrants and guarantees their dignity.
- Regarding cultural and educational cooperation, the two parties agreed on the relevance of continuing to promote and extend cooperation to various sectors of common interest, through academic activities and exchange between academic institutions of both countries.
- The two ministers decided to launch, two integrated programs in the field of agriculture (irrigation systems, soil mapping, fertilizers, etc.) in two regions of Colombia which will be located on the Atlantic coast and Peaceful.
- The two ministers also decided to set up programs for the exchange of experiences and good practices in the field of social economy, in particular for and with the participation of women in rural areas.
- In addition, the two ministers decided to extend cooperation in the cultural field through exchanges between the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Gold Museum of the Republic of Colombia Bank.
- Following the signing during the work meeting held on April 6, 2021, the two parties exchanged notes concerning the entry into force of the Agreement on visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports, which will result in the strengthening of human, tourist, economic, social, commercial and academic exchange between the two friendly countries.
- Regarding the invitation addressed to Mr. Nasser Bourita to make a work and friendly visit to Colombia, the Minister announced his intention to make the said visit during the year 2022.
- Expressing his satisfaction for the progress made and the mutual understanding, Her Excellency the Vice-President and Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramirez, thanked the warm welcome and hospitality during her visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
