Joint statement: Phone call between the Foreign Ministers of Morocco and Italy
During their talks, the two ministers praised the excellent relations between Morocco and Italy and agreed to accelerate the implementation of the multidimensional strategic partnership between the two countries.
They reaffirmed their great interest in maintaining and strengthening the legal framework linking Morocco to the European Union, which is essential to guarantee the stability of their strategic partnership, and underlined the importance of the initiatives of the EU Council regarding the fisheries and agricultural agreements between Morocco and the European Union.
Mr. Di Maio referred to Italy's position on the Western Sahara issue, as expressed in the Declaration on the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership, signed on November 1, 2019 in Rabat, reaffirming Italy’s full support to the efforts of the United Nations’ Secretary General to continue the political process, in line with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, in particular Resolution 2602 of October 29, 2021.
Italy welcomes the serious and credible efforts made by Morocco within the framework of the United Nations and encourages all parties to continue their engagement in a spirit of realism and compromise he added.
The two ministers also exchanged on regional and international issues of common interest, including the latest developments in Libya.
