MFA Bourita holds talks with the Vice-President, Minister of External Relations of Colombia
Following a joint press conference at the end of their bilateral talks, the two ministers praised the excellence of bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Colombia and reaffirmed their remarkable progress in all areas, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of Colombia Iván Duque.
The visit of the Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Colombia reflects the commitment of the two countries to promote and strengthen their bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, energy, cultural and academic fields, while exploring new opportunities, Mr. Bourita said.
The Minister reiterated Morocco's support for the “Peace within Legality” policy led by the Colombian President and for the actions undertaken within the framework of the implementation of the peace agreements.
He also welcomed the decision announced by the Procurer-General of the International Criminal Court to close the preliminary case on Colombia, describing it as a positive progress which confirms that the measures taken by HE Mr. Iván Duque are oriented towards the stability and the national unity of the country.
Ms. Ramirez highlighted the special ties between Morocco and Colombia, stressing that through these links, the Kingdom can stand out as a gateway to Africa and vice versa for Colombia in Latin America.
We discussed several topics and reviewed a series of sectors in which cooperation must be strengthened, such as industry, infrastructure and agriculture, an area where both countries have an important vision, she added.
In a joint statement adopted at the end of their talks, Ms. Ramírez informed Mr. Bourita of the instructions given to the new Ambassador of Colombia in Rabat, to extend the consular jurisdiction of the Embassy of Colombia to the Kingdom of Morocco over the whole of Moroccan territory, including the Sahara.
The two ministers also exchanged notes concerning the entry into force of the Agreement signed on April 6, 2021, on visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports, thus allowing the exchange of visits between the Moroccan and Colombian citizens.
