MFA Nasser Bourita held talks with his Russian counterpart Mr. Sergei Lavrov
This is the third meeting held between the two ministers in less than three months, which reflects the trust and regularity of dialogue and consultations between Morocco and Russia.
The two MFAs welcomed the positive dynamic of bilateral relations which is part of the deep Strategic Partnership, desired by the two Heads of States, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, and President Vladimir Putin.
Discussions included the next deadlines of the bilateral agenda, in particular MFA Bourita’s next visit to Moscow for the 8th session of the Morocco-Russia Joint Intergovernmental Commission, scheduled for 2021, and the strengthening of political dialogue between the two countries, as well as Mr. Lavrov's visit to Morocco to participate in the Arab World-Russia Forum, the next edition of which will be held in Morocco in 2021.
The two Ministers also welcomed the recent renewal of the Fisheries Agreement for a period of four years.
This phone call allowed for an in-depth discussion on regional and international issues of common interest; mainly the issue of the Moroccan Sahara and its recent developments. The two ministers reiterated the need for all parties to respect the ceasefire and to remain fully engaged in the political process.
The Russian Minister expressed his appreciation for Morocco's efforts on the Libyan issue, in light of the inter-Libyan talks held in Bouznika. In this regard, the two Ministers insisted on the need to work for a convergence of international efforts and the imperative to work for the Libyans to take ownership of the efforts made.
MFA Bourita and MFA Lavrov reiterated their commitment to continue working jointly in Africa for the stability and development of African countries, especially those of the Sahel region, in the spirit of the Moroccan-Russian strategic partnership.
