MFA Nasser Bourita Holds talks with his Nigerian counterpart
MFA Bourita congratulated Mr. Onyeama, for the brilliant election of Dr Ngozi Okonjo as the Director-General of the WTO, making her the first African to hold this position.
Both ministers hailed the excellence of the relationship between the two brotherly countries thanks to the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and His Brother, His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, particularly after the official visit of His Majesty to Nigeria in December 2016 and the official visit of President Buhari to Morocco in June 2018.
The two ministers expressed their mutual willingness to further develop and elevate these relations and welcomed the commitment of both leaders to build a strategic partnership in different sectors for the welfare of their respective populations.
Both ministers stressed the importance of strengthening the dynamics of economic cooperation through their respective sectorial ministries, noting the existence of a large potential for linkages between their respective business communities. They also expressed satisfaction on the progress made in the implementation of the construction of the 1.3 billion dollars chemical platform in Nigeria that will produce ammonia and various fertilizers, highlighting that these strategic and mutually beneficial projects are a true illustration of South-South cooperation.
Mr. Bourita and Mr. Onyeama agreed to hold regular consultations on issues of common interest at continental and regional levels including initiatives to promote peace, stability and prosperity in West Africa and the Sahel.
Mr. Bourita extended his praise to Nigeria for the election of Ambassador Bankole as the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security.
Mr. Bourita and Mr. Onyeama have also committed to hold the next Joint Commission as soon as the health conditions permit.
