MFA Nasser Bourita Holds Talks with the Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council
Speaking at a press conference held at the end of their talks, Mr. Bourita reiterated that Morocco will always stand with Libya without any agenda except that of the security and stability of this country.
The Minister also expressed to the Libyan official, His Majesty King Mohammed VI's support for the political process in Libya, for the achievements of the presidential council and for the provisional executive powers, as well as for all Libyan efforts to overcome the difficulties and meet the aspirations of the Libyans.
MFA Bourita also said that the political process in Libya faces some difficulties, mainly regarding the preparation of the elections and the respect of the security and military commitments, adding that Morocco remains convinced that Libya and the Libyans are capable of overcoming them.
The Libyan elections are an important event for establishing legitimacy in Libya, he said, recalling the Libyan and international consensus about this legitimacy which must be decided by the Libyan people, through transparent elections.
Morocco considers that the obstacles hampering the process of preparing for these elections can be overcome through will and calm dialogue, while prioritizing the interests of Libya, noted MFA Bourita. The Kingdom does not have a magic wand but he has the sincere will, in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, to encourage dialogue and negotiation between Libyans to reach consensus in order to overcome these obstacles, he added.
The Minister also indicated that he discussed with the Libyan official the issue of national reconciliation, which remains an essential step forward, to promote cohesion between all components of the Libyan people, stressing that Morocco, which has led an exemplary process in this area through the Equity and Reconciliation Commission, is ready to share its experience and support Libya.
Referring to bilateral relations, MFA Bourita highlighted the constant concern of His Majesty the King to preserve the solid ties between the two brotherly peoples and the permanent contact with the Libyan institutions, thanks to the shared history and the unity of destiny.
Fort its part, Mr. Al-Lafi said that Morocco has always worked for a consensus between the Libyans, whether through the Skhirat agreement, the holding of the Bouznika meetings, or the hosting of the dialogue between the President of the Libyan High Council of State and that of the Libyan House of Representatives.
He also expressed the wish of his country to benefit from the Moroccan experience in matters of national reconciliation, welcoming the great role played by Morocco, thanks to HM King Mohammed VI, in favor of political reconciliation in Libya and to make contacts between the Libyan parties.
In addition, the Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council described as excellent his meeting with MFA Bourita, noting that several issues were discussed on this occasion, including the meeting, next week, of the joint consular commission to discuss obstacles and difficulties in granting visas and monitoring flights.
