In a statement to the press following the meeting, Mr. Furey hailed the multiple reforms carried out under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, for a more prosperous, inclusive, sustainable and ambitious Morocco.
Mr. Furey also thanked the Kingdom for its indispensable contribution to the international order, through its efforts in the fight against terrorism and "its commitment to human rights, in particular, gender equality."
The relations between the two countries, established since 1962, have continued to develop and deepen in many areas, including economic as well as in the fight against terrorism, gender equality and inclusive prosperity, said Mr. Furey, highlighting the important contribution of the Moroccan community (over 100,000 people) established in Canada, describing it as very dynamic.
The senator said he was also encouraged by "the increase in bilateral trade between the two countries and the potential for mutually beneficial economic growth, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, aerospace, education, infrastructure and green technologies."
He added that Morocco, with its close ties to Europe and Africa and its strategic positioning, can serve as a springboard to the vast African continent for Canadian companies, just as Canada offers a bilingual gateway for Moroccan companies to the North American market.
