Morocco, New Zealand Discuss Inter-regional Cooperation
These talks focused on the means to implement experience-sharing mechanisms between local authorities, in particular in the area of territorial governance and economic development. Bouaida shed light, on this occasion, on the objectives of a new territorial organization in the Kingdom within the framework of advanced regionalization. She underlined, in this regard, the willingness of the Kingdom to promote an effective and active local democracy aiming at ensuring a dynamic, sustainable and balanced development of the different regions of the country.
Bouaida also highlighted the main structuring projects underway in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, in particular the improvement of the road network, stressing the importance of the partnership between the region, the central government and the private sector in carrying out this project. She also gave an overview on the region's policies to promote economic development and employment, particularly for young people and women.
Bouaida underscored the importance given by the region to sustainability in the various projects implemented, particularly with regard to the management of water resources, through the construction of water desalination units and the development of renewable energies.
For his part, the Ambassador of the Kingdom to New Zealand with residence in Canberra, Karim Medrek, stressed the importance of integrating the dimension of inter-regional cooperation to widen the scope of bilateral relations between Rabat and Wellington. Given the numerous opportunities to strengthen trade between enterprises of the two countries, cooperation at the territorial level has an important human dimension that promotes a better mutual understanding of the respective history and culture of both countries, he noted.
