This event, chaired by Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, Ambassador Omar Hilale, was moderated by a high-level panel composed of Carla Mucavi, Director of the FAO Liaison Office in New York, Marie Paul Roudil, Director of the UNESCO Liaison Office, Werner Obermeyer, Director of the WHO New York Office, and Hamid Rashid, Head of the Research and Development Department at the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA).

The panel also included Babita Bisht, Deputy Director of the Green Climate Fund, and Latifa Yaakoubi, Director of the National Agency for Oasis and Argania Development (ANDZOA). This meeting comes a week after the launch by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of the new development strategy for the agricultural sector called "Green Generation 2020-2030" and the one relating to the development of the water and forest sector dubbed "Forests of Morocco".

This strategy is behind the flagship project of planting 10,000 ha of Argan trees over 6 years for $ 49.2 million, co-financed by the Kingdom of Morocco and the Green Climate Fund. During this meeting, Ambassador Omar Hilale highlighted the uniqueness of the Argan tree, recalling its recognition as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2014, and as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems by FAO in 2018.

In addition, the event was marked by the announcement of Morocco's initiative to present to the United Nations General Assembly a draft resolution proclaiming an International Argania Day.
