Mr. Robert Dussey: Togo expresses 'Total Support' for Moroccan Sovereignty
"Our position in Togo is that we need to tell everyone that your sovereignty over the Sahara region is total," Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey said in a statement released following his participation in the Ministerial Conference in support of the autonomy initiative under Morocco's sovereignty, held virtually on Friday.
"We must support you. We must show everyone that your position is the same as ours," the Togolese FM added, expressing, on behalf of President Faure Gnassingbé, his "deep gratitude" to Morocco and the United States for the invitation to the Conference.
Togo's top diplomat recalled on this occasion that his country has taken knowledge of the historic decision of the United States of America recognizing the full sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara.
"In Togo, we said Finally at last. Now we can talk about peace and security in your country and your region," he continued.
"We must therefore show everyone right now that your decision and that of the US administration are good for our continent, Africa, for us, and for the Kingdom of Morocco," Dussey said.
The conference was co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans, Nasser Bourita, and US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, David Schenker.
It was an opportunity for most of the 40 participating countries to express their strong support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only basis for a just and lasting solution to the Sahara regional conflict.
