The friendship group will be chaired by José Serrano Salgado of the ruling Alianza Pais' party, a center-left political grouping led by the current president of the Republic, Lenín Moreno.
An influential figure on the Ecuadorian political scene, Serrano Salgado has held several positions in the Ecuadorian government, including minister of Justice, Human Rights and Worship (2010-2011) and minister of the Interior (2011-2016). He was also president of the National Assembly from 2017 to 2018.
This inter-parliamentary friendship group includes among its members influential personalities from Ecuadorian political life, representing the country's main political forces, namely "Alianza Pais", "Fuerza Ecuador" (center-left) and "SUMA" (center-right).
In a statement to MAP, Loudaya said that the creation of this friendship group is an unprecedented event in the history of relations between the two countries as it is the first initiative of its kind since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Ecuador in February 1988.
