Peruvian Parliament Congratulates Morocco's Initiative to Secure El Guerguerat Crossing
Following a motion by the Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, the Peruvian Parliament urged the international community to call on "polisario" to cease its provocations. The Congress of the Republic has also positioned itself in favor of a political, realistic, pragmatic and lasting solution to the regional conflict in the Sahara.
This motion described “polisario” as an armed rebel group that claims to be the representative of the Moroccan Saharwi population while the latter is represented by democratically elected representatives at the local and regional levels.
Stating that “polisario” militiamen committed acts of banditry, since October 21st 2020, blocking the civil and commercial movement in the buffer zone of El Guerguerat, the motion also underlined the harassment of the members of the MINURSO.
The Parliamentary Friendship Group emphasized the flagrant violation of all UN Security Council resolutions as well as the military and ceasefire agreements while Morocco, which has shown the greatest restraint, intervened peacefully to restore the flow of goods and people through the buffer zone of El Guerguerat.
