São Tomé and Príncipe Seeks Stronger Cooperation with Morocco
Speaking at a joint press briefing following her talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, MFA Nasser Bourita, the São Toméan Minister highlighted her country’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties, particularly within Africa, and reinforcing the solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
"We welcome the excellent cooperation, friendship and solidarity between our two countries thanks to the strong will of the President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, HE Mr. Carlos Manuel Vila Nova, and His Majesty King Mohammed VI," Amado Vaz said, reaffirming her country’s commitment to cooperation and joint projects.
In this regard, she emphasized the importance of a newly signed 2025-2027 Cooperation Roadmap, which outlines collaboration in fisheries, health, tourism, and agriculture.
This framework aims to elevate longstanding ties into concrete achievements benefiting both nations, she underlined, expressing the wish to see this bilateral cooperation enter fully into "a new era".
Amado Vaz also praised Morocco’s leadership on regional and international issues, including its role in the Atlantic African States Process.
"We also support initiatives and the coordination of positions within regional and international organizations," the São Tomean minister noted.
Regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, Amado Vaz reiterated her country's "constant position" in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
She also reiterated her country’s support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, which constitutes the credible and realistic solution for the resolution of this regional dispute, while emphasizing the growing international consensus around this issue, thanks to the momentum driven by HM King Mohammed VI, in favor of the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
