In a press statement on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Arab summit dedicated to Palestine, Mr. Bourita stated that HM the King's vision on this issue has always been clear and grounded in core principles, the foremost of which is its equal importance to Morocco's national cause, and that the Sovereign supports all initiatives capable of ensuring the Palestinian people's legitimate rights.
He explained that this summit is being held at a delicate and difficult time, characterized by the destruction and killing caused by the Israeli aggression against Gaza for almost a year and a half, as well as the announcement of a ceasefire, despite its fragility, violations and the difficulties it faces.
Mr. Bourita added that the extraordinary summit is also taking place "against the backdrop of a set of ideas and initiatives regarding the future of Gaza, creating some confusion about the situation in the region and paving the way for numerous pressures."
In this regard, the minister stated that the parameters of Morocco’s position, as outlined by His Majesty the King, are determined by a set of principles. Gaza, like the West Bank, is part of Palestinian territory, and thus, the Palestinian people have the right to determine its future, he emphasized.
"Since it is Palestinian lands, only the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority have the first hand and the first initiative in determining its future," he said.
Before reaching the reconstruction phase, he added, the ceasefire must be consolidated, aid must be brought in, and the next stages of the ceasefire agreement must transition to a permanent cessation of hostilities.
He considered that, while reconstruction is an important technical and financial issue, it must also be carried out within a framework of "political vision and support, involving all regional and Palestinian players to ensure the success of this process."
In this regard, he underlined that the success of the reconstruction process also relies on a political horizon, halting aggressions and speeches of hatred, and prioritizing the logic of peace, considering that the presence of these factors would lead the reconstruction process in Gaza to achieve the desired results.
On the other hand, Mr. Nasser Bourita stressed that discussions on Gaza should not lead to forgetting or ignoring the situation in the West Bank and what is happening in Jerusalem, recalling His Majesty the King’s position, as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, on preserving the legal and historical status of Jerusalem, safeguarding it as a place of coexistence, and supporting the resilience of the people of Jerusalem, particularly in these difficult circumstances.
In this context, he pointed out that the final statement of the extraordinary summit (Cairo Statement) highlighted the role of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and welcomed the role of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif.
After noting the summit’s adoption of a reconstruction and rebuilding plan, the minister regarded this as the starting point for action. "What is now necessary is how to convince partners of the plan, promote it, secure support for it, and primarily reach a political vision that accompanies this process."
He praised Egypt’s role in crafting this plan, emphasizing that the current focus should be on finding a political horizon to convince international and Palestinian parties of it, overcoming existing obstacles, and unifying the Palestinian position, in order to reach a two-state solution, establishing a Palestinian state based on the June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Morocco's Foreign Minister noted that Morocco participated in the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council upon High Instructions from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee.
