The 6th session of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum : Mr. Nasser Bourita hold talks with his Yemeni counterpart

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita held talks, on December 19 , 2023 with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Republic of Yemen, Mr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, On the sidelines of the 6th session of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum.

During a joint press conference, Mr. Nasser Bourita voiced Morocco's clear support for the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, expressing the hope that this Council will play the role of a locomotive ensuring the stability of the country.

Mr. Nasser Bourita recalled that "the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI are clear in supporting our sister Yemen until it regains its security, sovereignty, and unity."

He also further noted that Morocco supports the Yemeni Presidential Council as the sole legitimate authority in Yemen and rejects any foreign interference and any parties jeopardizing its stability and unity.

Mr. Nasser Bourita also indicated that Morocco warns against "the dangers posed by illegal armed groups operating according to the agendas of foreign countries" and expresses its categorical rejection of foreign interference in the Yemeni crisis.

Morocco rejects the external support provided to the Houthis, as it contributes to instability in Yemen and the entire region, noting that the positions of the Kingdom are clear in this regard, he continued.

Mr. Nasser Bourita pointed out that Morocco pays special attention to the humanitarian aspect in Yemen and constantly calls for Arab and international mobilization to address the critical humanitarian situation in the country. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive and definitive political solution so that this brotherly country can regain its security and stability.

On a bilateral level, Mr. Nasser Bourita highlighted that Morocco is working to facilitate the arrival and stay of Yemeni students in Morocco, increasing the quota of dedicated scholarships to 100, along with administrative facilities to ensure students' stay in better conditions.

"We are currently working on updating the legal framework to also serve as a lever for the establishment of strong bilateral relations, reflecting the strength of the historical ties between the two countries," Bourita concluded.During a joint press conference, Mr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak reiterated his country’s "firm" and “continued” position in favor of the kingdom’s territorial integrity and the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.

“We reiterate our support for the kingdom’s territorial integrity and the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara,” Bin Mubarak said at a joint press conference.

The Yemeni minister also welcomed the strong historical relations between Morocco and Yemen, praising the attention accorded by HM King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan government to the development of bilateral ties.

Mr. Bin Mubarak also recalled Morocco's clear and principled position in favor of Yemen’s unity and stability, as well as the Kingdom's support for constitutional legality, the Presidential Council and peace efforts in the country, based on internationally recognized principles.

He also hailed bilateral coordination on several regional issues, particularly in international organizations.

Noting that his talks with Mr. Nasser Bourita focused on several common positions, the Yemeni minister welcomed Morocco’s attention and attachment to the humanitarian issue in Yemen, caused by the political crisis and the “terrorist” coup of the Houthis against constitutional legality.

He underlined that the current situation in Yemen confirms the nature of the joint decisions of the two countries, adding that these talks were an opportunity to inform Bourita of the latest developments in Yemen and the efforts to establish the political process and achieve peace in the country in light of the situation in the region and the attacks in the Gaza Strip.

Noting the convergence of the positions of the two countries on numerous issues, Bin Mubarak said that preparations are underway to hold meetings on revising several memorandums of understanding, particularly at the consular level, while welcoming the organization of the Russian¬-Arab Cooperation Forum in Morocco.
