The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, held talks, on February, 05, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration of the Republic of Cabo Verde, Mr. Rui Alberto De Figueiredo Soares, on the eve of the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle- Income Countries.

During a declaration to the press, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, Mr. Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares, welcomed, the “excellent” bilateral relations with Morocco.

Mr. Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares underlined that these talks essentially focused on the means to further consolidate bilateral relations.

In this regard, he hailed the ongoing development momentum in Morocco, adding that his talks with Mr. Nasser Bourita were an opportunity to discuss "the situation in our sub-region and the existing concerns that the international community shall address."

The head of Cape Verdean diplomacy also welcomed the holding, in Rabat, of the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries so that “these countries can find the necessary means to finance their development”.

Under the theme "Solutions to Address Development Challenges of Middle-Income Countries in a Changing World", this high-level Ministerial Conference is organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, jointly with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Development Programme.

The Conference brings together 32 countries, including many represented at ministerial level, and 23 United Nations development agencies and other international and regional institutions.

On the Sahara Issue, Mr. Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares, reiterated, his country's support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.

Mr. Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares reaffirmed Cape Verde’s recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara, reiterating his country’s position expressed in the joint communiqué adopted during the joint commission in 2023 in Rabat.

In this communiqué, the Republic of Cape Verde had reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the autonomy plan, presented by the Kingdom, which constitutes the only credible and realistic solution to settle the dispute over the Sahara.

Cape Verde’s position, which is consistent with the new approach of the United Nations on the Moroccan Sahara, joins the positions of almost all African countries, the United States of America and Europe.
