
"I welcomed the serious and credible efforts of Morocco for the settlement of the Sahara issue within the framework of the United Nations," said the Italian FM in a statement to the press after his talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita.
In this sense, Di Maio reaffirmed "the full support of Italy to the efforts of the UN Secretary General, and his personal envoy Staffan de Mistura to achieve a political, fair, realistic, sustainable and mutually acceptable solution for the issue of the Sahara, based on compromise, and in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council, particularly resolution 2602".
He also called on all parties to "renew their commitment in a spirit of realism and compromise”.
