MFA Bourita holds talks with his Mauritanian Counterpart
Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita met on Monday 24th of May in Rabat, with his Mauritanian counterpart Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed, who carries a message from the Head of State, Mohammed Ould Sheikh El-Ghazouani to his brother HM the King Mohammed VI.

During the joint statement following this meeting, the two ministers hailed the excellence of relations between the two countries thanks to the regular contacts between His Majesty the King and the Mauritanian President, particularly after the last phone call between the king and the President on November 21st, 2020, which provided a new impetus to the bilateral relations.

MFA Bourita and his Mauritanian discussed the next steps to give concrete substance to the ambition of the two heads of state to develop these relations, through the holding of the High Joint Committee and the monitoring committee at the level of foreign ministers.

The minister added that the next phases at the level of the joint committee and the monitoring committee, the emphasis will be laid on strengthening this sectoral cooperation and the mobilization of economic stakeholders within the framework of a bilateral and trilateral vision,

MFA Bourita affirmed that conveyed, to his Mauritanian counterpart, the greetings of His Majesty the King to the Mauritanian president and the esteem of the Sovereign for the efforts made by the Head of State since he took office in view of achieving socio-economic development and political stability in the country, as well as for the actions carried out by the President and the Republic of Mauritania at the regional level, particularly in the Sahel-Saharan region and at the continental and Arab levels.

Mr. Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed praised the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing his country's ambition to advance in the economic and commercial fields.

The Mauritanian minister stressed the importance of cultural exchange between the two countries, particularly training in various fields. He also welcomed Morocco's allocation of annual scholarships for the benefit of Mauritanian students in order to continue studying in Moroccan universities.
